Cleaning a steel pan or pot
You need:
Water
Baking soda
A rough sponge
Kitchen paper towel
(Vinegar)
Add baking soda to the base so that it is fully covered. Add water so that the base is covered. Turn the stove on and let simmer for a few minutes depending on how dirty the item is. Turn the stove off and let cool. Pour the water out and wash with a sponge and some washing detergent. Rinse and dry with paper towel.
If the dirt has really stuck, let soak over night.
If these don’t help you can repeat the whole thing or add some vinegar over the baking soda.
Did you know, that the rainbow colours that appear to your steel pot or pan are a result of heating your cookware too hot? The colours will fade over time but you can also remove them. Here’s how: add ½ dl or vinegar and 1 L of water to your pot. Let simmer and clean the pot with a rough sponge. Rinse well.
Tip! When cooking with a steel pot, add salt when the water is already boiling. Otherwise the salt may cause some small white spots to appear in the steel surface.
