5 easy ways to spice up your autumnal table

If you haven’t got into the autumn mood yet, these 5 table setting ideas will certainly do the trick! These 5 tips will help you prepare for your next event and delight your guests!

1. Decorate with food: make an autumnal cheese platter

All good cheese boards have a combination of all or some cheese, fruits, nuts, honey, jam, cold cuts, and biscuits.

For this cheese board, we used:

75 g blue cheese
200 g brie
50 g chilli gouda
1 fig
1/4 apple
1/2 pomegranate
Handful of pecans
Handful of cashew nuts
4 gooseberries

This cheeseboard is perfect for serving as it already comes with built-in compartments for cheese knives

Tip: Cheeses should be of different sizes and shapes to create contrast in the cheese board. In this cheese board, the three cheeses were either cut into cubes, left round, or cut into triangles.

Tip: For fruit, it’s best to choose according to the season. In autumn, apples, figs, pomegranates, pears, and plums are a good choice!

Tip: It’s important to have several colors on a cheese board, so if you use a lot of one color, such as cream or red, it’s also important to add something dark with biscuits or nuts.

2. Bring a touch of nature inside: pick leaves and flowers and place them around the table

At this time of year, it’s easy to use the front garden as a source of decorations. Adding autumn leaves and flowers creates a cozy atmosphere. You can also go to the florist and ask for baby’s breath, kangaroo grass, and hay for an autumnal look.

Tip: Use a variety of flowers, leaves, and hay to create structure.

3. Dim the lights: use candles to light the table

Light candles and dim all lights. Use the candle types and colors you like, to suit your table and create a cozy atmosphere!

For this table setting, we used white and sage-coloured candles of different heights and styles.

Note: All the glasses on the table are part of our La Rochère collection. Find the entire collection here!

4. Keep things simple: use natural materials such as jute twine, linen and ceramics

Since you already have a lot of elements on your table, such as flowers, leaves, candles, and a cheese plate, it’s a good idea to keep the rest of the decorations very minimalist and neutral in tone and materials. Linen is a great choice for tablecloths and napkins, as it adds elegance and is easy to care for if it gets dirty. Jute twine is a perfect and subtle way to decorate napkins.

For this table setting we used our Nosse for Heirol ceramic plates in the shades olive and terracotta as well as our edge plates that have a real gold plated edge. The plates blended in with the decorations perfectly and created a contrast between one and the other with the combination of shades. 5. Attract all the senses: make an autumnal simmer pot

One of the first signs of autumn is the wonderful smell of leaves, apple pie, vanilla, and cinnamon. If you want to create it at home, you can make a simmer pot with your favorite scents!

Simmer pot recipe

2 apples
2 oranges
1 lemon
2 cinnamon sticks
1 piece of ginger
water (enough to fill the pot)

Slice all the fruits and choose your preferred spices. Take a saucepan and fill it with water. When the water starts to boil, add all the fruit and spices and reduce the heat to low. Add more water to the pot as soon as you notice that it has started to evaporate. You can keep this simmering on low heat for 5-6 hours.

Tip: You can also use vanilla, anise, cardamom, and other spices and fruits with an autumnal scent.

Happy Autumn!
